I repost here a comment, for the "problem" you point at 21'20" (when the sequence restart with a step without style/variation on, it takes the last style/variation from prvious step, i.e. the last in your case), you can manage it like that : To do that you've to set a style/variation for the step you want "unchanged", but you've to choose the right one. And, it's cool because it exists: these are style 3 / variation 1 to 12, depending of the length (Beat parameter in menu) setting of your step. For example, if your steps length is set to 4 beats (i.e. 4 quarter note or one measure), you could use the style 3/ variation 2 if you want that the chord (or note) is "simply" playing for the length of the step, independantly of the style/variation setting of other steps. So, you can use for example these "standard" settings of style/variation for living a step unchanged, depending of your step length setting: Step length 8 beat (2 measure or 8 quarter note in 4/4): 3/1 Step length 4 beat (1 measure or 4 quarter note in 4/4): 3/2 Step length 2 beat (1/2 measure or 2 quarter note in 4/4): 3/3 Step length 1 beat (1/4 measure or 1 quarter note in 4/4): 3/4 Step length 1/2 beat (1/8 measure or 1 eighth note in 4/4): 3/5 Step length 1/4 beat (1/16 measure or 1 sixteenth note in 4/4): 3/6 For odd beat (triplet), see other variations in same style (n°3). More widely, I recommand to explore style 3 to 5 for different beat combinaison per step (see manual), according to your steps length, it's very fun, this little box is a beast :) Important: if you change the variation while playing a sequence, you've to restart the sequence to avoid strange behaviour.

Maybe I missed it but does this synth have the "hold chord memory" mode like on the Korg poly 800 where you basically play a chord and then when you turn on that mode you can just play a key and it will play the entire chord?

How do you make a pattern play say 4 bars then play another patern x amount of bars ?

How could I pair it with a mixing table?

In your section about sampling and chops i had two issues, in samples, when i create a sample it immediately ends the sample mode and returns to main, so im unable to recorde a sample over multiple pads as you showed. in chops, you didnt mention how to remove chops, or where theyre stored, when i tried it, i found my chop overwrote the samples i had on the pads, which i expected, however i had no clue how to undo that. if its even possible that is. and if not, i was unable to delete the chop effect from the pads easily.

Got my JT-4000 yesterday and noticed a weird problem. When Velocity is disabled and i play a few chords the volume gets lower almost like it has a slow built in Limiter and when i stop playing chords right after the volume drop and hold a single note the Volume slowly creeps up to where it was before i played the chords and to get it to stay at constant volume without any drop I have to play it as a mono synth with 1 note at a time. Is mine broken or is this normal behavior for this synth? I enjoyed watching your Great and informative video yesterday while i waited for my JT to arrive :)

Really good tutorial. Highly recommended for anyone that want to quickly learn the ins and outs of the MicroFreak.

For me the Arturia Minifreak is the perfect first synth. It provides different oscillator engines, all controllable with 3 knobs. You don't have to understand how those engines work and instead play with these knobs and learn by sound. It provides a super simple to use sequencer and effects so you don't have to buy those (which you usually don't own if its your first synth) and it has a plugin that can be used stand alone or to control the synth (also perfect for your first plugin). Not only that: Arturia provides extensive video tutorials and free preset banks. The plugin also has interactive tutorials where you learn each feature interactive by playing with them and getting explanations (this is so amazing for beginners). And they provide new updates all the time with major new features.
